George Meredith, Age 24

Private, 24746, 5th Battalion. Grenadier Guards.

George was a former member of the Shropshire Constabulary (Police). Before enlisting he had lived at Old Park and being a member of the Police was well placed to join an elite Guards regiment.

He was wounded in action and had been brought back to a London hospital before he succumbed to his wounds on 26th November 1917.

George was buried at the Ketley (St Mary) church in plot 12 of the new burial ground.

The family lived at 22, Coppice Houses, Old Park, Dawley, and before he became a police officer, he was an Apprentice Grocer.
